Slow Network ???
Wonder why your network and work stations seem to be getting
slower by the day? Spyware.
Spyware is ANY SOFTWARE that makes use of a user's Internet
connection in the background without their knowledge or permission.
"Spyware", that's right people spying on your computer
usage and often company data. I don't mean your employer, I
mean total strangers. What's worse, the fact you actually let
them in? That they may allow access to your computer and network
data to others? That they're using your network / Internet bandwidth?
(Which leaves less for you.) Or the fact you'll pay us more
than once to remove the same software, which for some reason
you just keep downloading onto your computer!!!
So what is "spyware"? Remember Gator, Divx and about
a dozen mp3 music players? That's just a few, they use your
computer to download add's, to track your web usage, to upload
info, sometimes they grant access to your hard drives and every
now and then place virus's on your computer. (Virus's are starting
to use them as a means of access to your network.)
According to the folks at Norton Anti-virus, Gator is infected
with a back door trojan virus, that allows off-site users to
access your computers hard drives. Yes, this includes your network
drives.
Wonder why you got so much porn email? If you're using "Divx"
for viewing porn, (and we know you are), your usage is also
being monitored, that's right monitored. Then your get those
lovely email's that even sailors would like to hide.

You may think, "I don't care if anyone know's what I do
on the web". But what about your companies database's?
What about your Credit card info? Not so funny anymore. This
goes way beyond simply slowing your network down, these can
easily become direct assaults on yours and/or your companies
data and funds. It's not those easy to spot that extra $104
or $ 49.95 dollar credit card charges. Now your suddenly spending
man hours going over every credit cards usage to confirm the
validity of each purchase. Lost revenue.
If you've purchased your computer from a retailer, chances
are you're open for attack from the internet , from day one.
Many retailers enable everything, just in case you need it.
With Microsoft's weak password protection system, you don't
want to expose your computers ports to hackers and crackers.
They'll be using your hard drive and email system in hours.
We've noticed that most of our routers are scanned for security
leaks within 2 to 8 hours of installation.
There are literally millions of people working at getting data
off your computer on a day to day basis. The bottom line is
simple, don't put software on your computer unless you've checked
to see what it does. Not just what it does for you, but what
if may be doing for other people.
If you put a new system on your network, make sure it's setup
for security, not home usage for children.
It's a shame to see companies spending money on Firewall's,
password strategies and performance tuning, only to see their
staff download bug ridden, performance killing, data stealing,
software, or in an attempt to save a few bucks, leave the doors
to the companies data open for public use and misuse.
